The Consolidated Youth for Peace & Development (COYPED) is a registered non-for-profit youth-led organization working to promote youth development and policies issues in Liberia since 2008. COYPED currently provides voluntary services in the area of Education, Water, Sanitation &Hygiene, democratic governance, Adolescent Sexual & Reproductive Health, drug prevention, and policy advocacy, youth empowerment, and community services.  COYPED is accredited by the Ministry of Finance & Development Planning, Ministry of Youth & Sports and registered with the Liberia Business Registry. 

 

COYPED recently ended a twenty months (January 2017- August 2018) drug preventing project in four counties in Liberia with support from the UNODC, ECOWAS and funded by the European Union. Most recently during the pre-election process COYPED with funding from the Ministry of Youth & Sports implemented a three months project that focused on elections non-violence campaign in ten electoral districts in Montserrado County using sports as a vehicle to mobilized citizens.

 

During the heat of the Ebola crisis, COYPED coordinated a nationwide initiative known as the National Youth Action against Ebola where over six hundred youths were trained in Ebola virus prevention, Community Mobilization, and data collection methodology.  

 

COYPED has worked and partnered with national and international institutions including the US-Embassy-Monrovia, UNFPA, UNODC, ECOWAS, EU, Friends of Liberia, Ministry of Youth & Sports, Liberia Education Trust-Monrovia, Women NGO Secretariat of Liberia, Federation of Liberian Youth, Youth Service America, Global Youth Anti-Corruption Network-Liberia, CSO WASH Network and is a beneficiary of the Civil Society & Media Leadership Program implemented by IREX with funding from USAID.  

 

Through its programs and activities over the years, over 2200 primary school children mainly girls have benefitted from its Children Study & Play Program initiated since 2010. Under the Disadvantaged Girls Scholarship Program, 280 girls from primary and secondary schools in Montserrado County has benefited thus far. 20 schools and over 5000 students benefitted from the WASH in Schools project in 2015. Over 500 adolescents and youths have benefited from sexual and reproductive health education in Bomi County. COYPED recently launch Liberia’ first independent youth-focused newspaper (Youth Voices) that is providing civic education, SGBV awareness and advocating for youth rights and providing young people the platform where they can express their views on critical national issues as well as providing anti-corruption awareness.

 

MISSION:

 

As a national non-governmental youth-led organization motivated by volunteerism to pursue justice and human rights; COYPED is dedicated to alleviating poverty, hunger and disease among the people of the fifteen (15) sub-political divisions of Liberia regardless of ethnicity, political or religious background.

 

VISION:

Our vision is to have communities of empowered self-sustainable women, youths and citizens.

 

CORE VALUES:

The attitudes and expectations of citizens are crucial in building a responsive civil society. Therefore, fostering attitudes that promote integrity, transparency, accountability, dedication, hard-work, volunteerism and social responsibility are at the core of Consolidated Youth for Peace & Development work.

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

  • To implement community developmental projects (construct/renovate hand pumps, Latrines and schools;

 

  • To lobby for the realistic inclusion of youth in policy formulating and their subsequent participation;

 

  • To promote principles of integrity, democracy, gender equality and tolerance among youth

 

  • To initiate youth development projects and activities with the aim of encouraging the active participation of youth in the process of their own empowerment

 

  • To initiate and facilitate workshops and forums on civic education for citizens especially young people across Liberia;

 

  • To advocate for the advancement of democracy, human rights, good governance and promotion of youth agendas

 

  • To solicit scholarship for deserving students and skills training through apprenticeship for out-of-school youths;

 

  • To provide awareness and sensitization on HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis prevention;

 

  • To engage into small scale livestock and agriculture projects.

 

  • Establish youth resource tele-centre (internet access and training Centre) and libraries throughout Liberia.

 

  • To contribute to the success of the Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS) and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by mobilizing communities and creating awareness and sensitizations.
