Disavantaged Girls Scholarship Program

Since 2011 over 100 primary and secondary school girls from poor families in Liberia  have benefitted for the initiative. The scholarship program is implemented with funding from the Liberian Education Trust-Monrovia (LET-M).

 

“Providing Girls Access to Quality Education in Liberia ”

    PROGRAM 

 

 

 

 

Launch in 2013, the award is a bi-aanual program aimed at motivating female students in primary and secondary schools across Liberia who earn a semester or yearly average of 85% or above.

 

The First two Editions award was named in honor of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf the 24th President of Liberia and the first elected female Head of State in Africa for her commitment to hard work, integrity and good governance, advocating for the rights of women and providing access to quality education for disadvantaged girls across Liberia.

This annual initiative was established in 2010, gear towards keeping vulnerable primary school children off the streets during vacation period especially in slum communities in Liberia. The program is also intended to provide a safe playing environment for a cordial interaction among in-school and out-of-school children through free tutorial classes, recreational activities and sports and have benefited over 1000 children in Liberia.

Globally, it is estimated that in 2012, some 243 million people (range: 162 million-324 million) corresponding to some 5.2 per cent (range: 3.5-7.0 per cent) of the world population aged 15-64 had used an illicit drug — mainly a substance belonging to the cannabis, opioid, cocaine or amphetamine-type stimulant (ATS) group — at least once in the previous year.

 

Drug and substance abuse is widespread among young people and often begin at (or even before) adolescence. The most commonly abused substances are alcohol), marijuana, heroin, and other injectable or oral drugs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Statistics from the a recent research conducted by COYPED reveal that in 2013, more than 78 per cent of high school students in Liberia had taken alcohol.

The Youth Media & Advocacy Program dedicated to producing quality, independent journalism devoted to policy issues and programs affecting children, women and youth, especially the disadvantaged, gender related and rights.

 

Through this program COYPED is publishing Liberia First Independent Youth-Focused Newspaper “ Youth Voice News Paper.

 

Youth Voices Newspaper is not a traditional profit making entity, therefore all activity of the paper is free of charge. Currently Youth Voices is published three times weekly (Monday, Wednesday & Friday) and two hundred copies are circulated in and around Monrovia during every publication for free.

 

Our current strategy enable Youth Voices Newspaper reach Fifteen (15) Government Ministries and agencies, UNICEF, UNMIL, UN-Women, UNFPA, USAID, Save the Children, OSIWA, IREX, NDI, US Embassy, five University campuses and other  sectors in Monrovia with an increasing readership every day.

COYPED WASH Program is geared toward campaigning for  access to safe drinking water, better sanitation and proper hygeine practices for all.

 

Because thousands of children suffer each day as a result of poor access to water and poor hygiene practices. It also has a number of other repercussions. Children are denied their right to education because schools lack sanitation facilities. Women are forced to spend large parts of their day fetching water. Without adequate Water, Health and Sanitation systems in place, sustainable development is impossible.

The Consolidated Youth for Peace & Development has initiated the Schools Democracy and Peace Club in order to provide civic education to young people in the country. The program consists of a set of extracurricular activities through which high school students learn about government, national history, human rights, citizenship, and responsible social living.

Increasing Citizen participation in Local Government Administration

 

Democratic Governance Program

For a democracy to survive and flourish in country like Liberia, a critical mass of its citizens must possess the skills, embody the values, and manifest the behaviors that accord with democracy.

COYPED’s Democratic Governance Program explores the relationships between democratic governance and the persistence of urgent social problems with a particular focus on strengthening citizen’s participation, transparency, accountability and freedom of Information as tools vital to the understanding of contemporary democracy.

Liberia Grassroot Soccer Development Intiative

The Liberia Grassroot Soccer          Development Initiative (LIGSDI) is a      program of the Consolidated Youth for Peace & Development (COYPED)         established in 2013.

 

LIGSDI is the leader in grassroot sports-based youth development       program in Liberia. From promoting health to inspiring leadership and teamwork, LIGSDI utilize the power of Sports especially soccer to change the lives of hundreds of disadvantaged and less fortunate youths and children through its     programs across Liberia.
