"COYPED Boss visits notorious Ghetto in Liberia Largest slum"

The Consolidated Youth for Peace & Development (COYPED) Executive Director, James Koryor visits notorious Ghetto in Liberia Largest slum community (West Point). Speaking during the visit, Mr. Koryor inform substance users that his organization is working with key stakeholders to address the current situation of substance users in the country.

The COYPED boss furthered stated that his organization is expected to shortly engage into a robust anti-drug campaign including petitioning the 54th Legislature on the implementation of the Liberian Youth Common Position on Drug Abuse & Prevention, a Policy advocacy tool developed in June 2017 by delegates at the National Drug Prevention Youth Conference held in commemoration of the 2017 International Drug Day.

The Anti-Drug Campaigner also stressed that the lack of rehabilitation center in the country is a serious challenge in addressing drug abuse and prevention programs in the country.

For their part, substance users living in the Ghetto common known as Bellewala Base in the Kru Beach area in West Point, expressed their frustration on the failure of government in catering to them over the years and expressed hope that they believe that they will get help one day. many of the substance users males and females who have been involve with the usage of dangerous narcotics said that they are willing to go to rehab if the opportunity is provided them.

The outreach activity is part of the Peer Education Program for Alcohol and Drug Prevention among People in Liberia Project implemented by COYPED with support from UNODC, ECOWAS and fully funded by the EU.
